Hot-mix asphalt on Cozumel only lasts when the mix arrives hot, the base is sound and the thickness is what the contract says. Everything arrives on the cargo ferry from the mainland; hot mix depends on local production on the island, and heavy equipment crossings are planned in advance, which explains the higher location factor.
Milling where levels require it, tack coat and a new wearing course over sound old asphalt.
Private driveways, condo streets and club access roads, with neat edges and level transitions.
Mix temperature on arrival, core samples for thickness and density, and a written report.
Cruise days and the high season fill the streets; works near the waterfront and terminals are planned at night or on quiet days, and the hurricane season sets the risk window. Laying is scheduled with the plant and around these windows, so the mix is compacted at the right temperature.
The island is limestone with thin soil, firm for roads but hard to trench; the coastal areas are sand and coral rock exposed to salt and storm waves. We check and correct the base for these conditions before any asphalt is laid.
Cozumel needs car parks and internal roads for hotels and the cruise terminals, resurfacing of island streets, access roads to villas and condos, and repair after every hurricane season.
The municipality of Cozumel issues licences; works on the coastal road and near the reef and mangroves face extra environmental limits, and federal zone rules apply on the shore.
