Structural Steel Fabrication and Erection in the Riviera Maya

Steel builds faster, spans further and weighs less than concrete, which matters on rock, on sand and on tight programmes. But on the Caribbean coast it only works if it is designed for hurricane wind and protected against salt air. We engineer, fabricate in our own workshop and erect steel frames for commercial buildings, hotels, warehouses, rooftop additions and villas, from shop drawings to the last bolt.

A Recrea Construction project
2026 prices: structural steel supplied, fabricated, protected and erected $55–$95 MXN/kg (galvanizing adds $12–$22/kg); portal-frame building shell with metal roof $4,500–$8,500 MXN/m²; with insulated panels $7,000–$13,000 MXN/m²; exposed architectural steel in residential projects $9,000–$20,000 MXN/m². Foundations are separate.

What We Do

Engineering & Shop Drawings

Structural design, connection details and fabrication drawings, with wind loads calculated for the site's exposure.

Workshop Fabrication

Cutting, drilling, certified welding and surface preparation in our own shop, so quality is checked before steel reaches site.

Corrosion Protection

Hot-dip galvanizing, zinc-rich primers and epoxy-polyurethane systems chosen for distance to the sea.

Erection

Cranes, bolted and welded connections, plumb and level checks and anchor bolts set in templates for millimetre fit.

Building Types

Commercial premises, hotels, warehouses, schools, gyms, parking structures, rooftop extensions and steel-framed villas.

Quality Control

Mill certificates, weld inspection, coating thickness readings and as-built documentation at handover.

Steel or concrete on this coast?

Concrete is the default in Quintana Roo, and for many houses it remains the right choice. Steel wins when you need long spans without columns (warehouses, gyms, showrooms, lobbies), speed (a frame goes up in days once fabricated), light weight (adding floors on an existing building, poor soil) or a slim architectural look. The trade-off is corrosion: unprotected steel near the sea rusts in a few seasons. That is why every project starts with the exposure category and a coating specification, not with the price per kilo.

Designed for hurricanes

  • Wind loads calculated with the CFE 2020 wind design manual for the site, height and exposure, including uplift on roofs and canopies.
  • Connections detailed for load reversal, because hurricane wind pulls as well as pushes.
  • Anchorage to foundations designed for uplift, with anchor bolts cast using templates.
  • Cladding and roofing fixed to the same standard as the frame, since most storm damage starts at the envelope.

Frequently Asked Questions

In 2026 structural steel supplied, fabricated, protected and erected costs about $55–$95 MXN per kg, plus $12–$22/kg for hot-dip galvanizing. A portal-frame building shell with metal roof runs $4,500–$8,500 MXN/m², or $7,000–$13,000 MXN/m² with insulated panels.

Unprotected steel does, quickly. Near the coast we specify hot-dip galvanizing or a duplex system (galvanizing plus paint), sealed connections and drainage details so water does not sit on the steel.

Yes, when it is engineered for the site's wind loads, connections are designed for uplift and the cladding is fixed to the same standard. We calculate to the CFE 2020 wind manual and the calculations are signed by a structural engineer.

Both. We fabricate in our own workshop in Playa del Carmen and erect on site, or erect steel supplied by others if the drawings and quality are right.
