Hot-mix asphalt in Playa del Carmen only lasts when the mix arrives hot, the base is sound and the thickness is what the contract says. Our yard is in Playa del Carmen; hot mix comes from plants towards Cancún, about an hour of haul, so laying is planned with the plant to keep the mix at temperature, and sascab quarries are close.
Base, prime coat and hot mix laid with a paver and compacted with steel and pneumatic rollers.
Polymer-modified binders and stone-rich mixes that resist rutting at high temperatures.
Truck yards, bus terminals and service areas with thicker layers and stronger bases.
Tourist traffic on Quinta Avenida and Constituyentes means paving in streets near the centre is done early morning or at night, and works in gated communities follow association hours, usually weekdays only. Laying is scheduled with the plant and around these windows, so the mix is compacted at the right temperature.
West of the highway the ground is shallow limestone that often needs breaking for drainage and utilities; near the beach it turns into sand over rock, and cavities are found often enough that probing under heavy loads is sensible. We check and correct the base for these conditions before any asphalt is laid.
Playa del Carmen needs access roads and streets for new gated communities on the west side, car parks for plazas and hotels along Highway 307, condo-street resurfacing in Playacar and ongoing repairs after every rainy season.
Solidaridad issues the licences; work on or next to Highway 307 and its lateral roads needs SCT or municipal approval, and Playacar, Mayakoba and other gated communities add association rules on hours, materials and finishes.
