Mahahual is at the end of a long road from highway 307, with cruise traffic, hotel and restaurant supply, fishing boats and a growing resident population. A station here serves both the road and the coast, and has to be built for salt and hurricanes.
A station for road and sea
Delivery trucks, tour buses, residents’ cars and fishing and tour boats all need fuel, and the nearest alternatives are far away. The site and layout must handle large vehicles, and where boats are served, marine fuelling and its own environmental conditions come into the file.
Protection against the coast
Salt corrodes canopies, dispensers and pipework, and a high water table close to the coast affects tank installation. We specify coated structures, sealed electrical equipment, double-wall tanks anchored against buoyancy and containment designed for heavy rain.
Designed after Dean
Hurricane Dean made landfall near Mahahual as a category 5 in 2007. Canopy, store and signage are designed for uplift, the store doubles as a secure room, and the operating plan includes shutting down, securing and restarting the station safely around a storm.
Budget and programme for a station in Mahahual
2026 reference: a new two-island station with double-wall tanks, dispensers, canopy, store and forecourt works, between MXN 12 and 24 million in construction and installation, excluding land and brand rights. Freight from Chetumal is reasonable; marine protection and anchoring against buoyancy push the figure up.
A realistic total programme is ten to fifteen months. The CRE permit and the ASEA authorisation dominate; we avoid excavation and tank installation in the peak of the hurricane season.
Scope: from the permit to a station dispensing fuel
We cover concept and executive design with services engineering, calculation records and specifications for the ASEA file, integration of the CRE retail permit, land use and the municipal licence, Protección Civil sign-off, management of the highway junction, civil works, tanks and lines, dispensers, canopy, convenience store, forecourt works and commissioning tests.
The budget comes out as line items with quantities and unit rates; every change is priced and signed before execution and payments go against verified progress. We hand over as-built drawings, calculation records, tightness certificates and equipment manuals.
Why the calendar is built from the filings
The civil works of a station are predictable: four to eight months depending on size. What is not predictable are the CRE permit, the ASEA authorisation and the highway junction, which run in months and do not depend on the contractor. So we start the file before the final executive design and run the three fronts in parallel rather than chaining them.
Weekly reports with dated photographs and a fortnightly video call from site, in Spanish, English, German, French, Russian or Chinese. We work with investors and operators who do not live in the area and need to follow both works and filings remotely.

Frequently asked questions
Can a station in Mahahual also serve boats?
It can, but marine fuelling is a separate facility with its own safety and environmental conditions, and the coast here is federal zone. We study it as a separate component of the project.
Why anchor the tanks?
Because the water table near the coast is high, and an empty or partly filled tank can float out of the ground. Anchoring against buoyancy is a standard requirement on this coast.
Do you only do the works, or the permit file too?
Both, and in practice they are inseparable: the drawings, calculation records and specifications the ASEA file requires are the same ones that govern the works. We assemble the file, respond to observations and coordinate the CRE retail permit with its holder.
What tests are handed over at the end?
Tightness certificates for tanks and lines, verification of the interstitial monitoring system, dispenser tests, as-built drawings, calculation records and manuals. Without that package the station cannot demonstrate compliance, and it is the first thing asked for in any later review.
