We build private spas in Mahahual: dry saunas, steam rooms, temazcal, cold plunges and home gyms, with the waterproofing and ventilation the climate demands. Mahahual is a small Costa Maya town with beachfront villas, dive lodges and the cruise pier; premium projects are few but large, with docks, spas and storm-ready envelopes.
Traditional Mayan sweat lodge in masonry or adobe, built with local craftsmen.
Chilled plunge pools in concrete or stainless, with filtration and a chiller sized for 30 °C air.
Rubber flooring on a levelled slab, mirrors, air conditioning, audio and equipment layout.
The village is fully exposed to the Caribbean and to hurricanes, so marine-grade metal, strong fixings and hurricane-ready finishes are essential; Hurricane Dean in 2007 flattened much of the village, and today shutters, anchored roofs and stainless hardware are part of every serious job. Wellness rooms add value to villas and rentals here, so we plan them with the pool, terrace and guest flow.
Supply is limited and many buildings use cisterns and rainwater, so low-flow fittings and storage are standard, and we often add rainwater collection from the roof to the cistern, with first-flush filters, to keep bathrooms and gardens working in the dry months. Vapour barriers, extraction and drainage keep steam inside the spa and out of the rest of the house.
Cruise-ship days and holidays bring peaks, so works in hotels are planned around them, with noisy tasks on days without ships and the quietest months, September and October, kept for larger renovations.
Licences come from Othón P. Blanco municipality; the coast is under ZOFEMAT and close to the Banco Chinchorro reserve, so exterior works follow environmental limits.
