We build private spas on Holbox: dry saunas, steam rooms, temazcal, cold plunges and home gyms, with the waterproofing and ventilation the climate demands. Holbox is a car-free island of boutique hotels and low-rise villas; premium work here means spas, plunge pools, small courts and lagoon-side docks, with every material ferried from Chiquilá.
Thermo-treated wood interiors, electric or infrared heaters, glass fronts and dedicated ventilation.
Traditional Mayan sweat lodge in masonry or adobe, built with local craftsmen.
Massage and treatment rooms with showers and wet-area finishes for hotel and villa spas.
Holbox sits between the Gulf and a shallow lagoon: very humid, salty and exposed to northers in winter, so wood, metal and paint need extra protection and frequent maintenance. Wellness rooms add value to villas and rentals here, so we plan them with the pool, terrace and guest flow.
Fresh water is scarce and supplied irregularly, so bathrooms and gardens are designed with low-flow fittings, cisterns and treated greywater wherever possible. Vapour barriers, extraction and drainage keep steam inside the spa and out of the rest of the house.
The island is part of the Yum Balam protected area, so works need municipal and environmental approval, building heights and materials are restricted, and vehicles on the island are limited.
Everything arrives by ferry from Chiquilá and moves on sand streets by golf cart or small truck, about three hours plus the crossing from our workshops, so jobs are planned in tight batches.
